I would like to add my last name to my daughters birth certificate. They currently have fathers last name. I have sole custody of them and their father & I were never married. He's always been inconsistent with his visitation rights (in and out of their lives, Reason for change). Do I need a court order & his permission to add my last name to their birth certificate?

We have custody of two of our neices and feel that we should adopt them. We had them for a year and helped the mother get off drugs and returned them to her for a time. We found them in a hotel with her and older man and another girl. The adults were high and the little girls were filthy dirty and asleep. We brought them home and have had them again for 4 months. They are 4 and 3. We feel that we should adopt them and raise them. What do we do to accomplish this?

We rented from a complex in Phoenix with a 13 month lease. We gave a 30 day notice and broke our lease after 6 months for my wife to take a job in PA. The lease states that we are responsible for the entire amount due UNTIL the apt is rented. That amounts to $11,000! It is now in collections, so I called to see if the apt. has been rented yet. I was not told if it has been, but the mgr. said it does not matter because we are still responsible for ALL of the rent, since we did not pay it all when we moved out. . Can they charge us for rent on an apt that is being rented? If so--RIDICULOUS

The father of my child left the relationship when i was three months pregnant. And he now lives in Missouri. I've recently been told by a friend that if custody is with both parents part-time that the father needs to live within 100 miles of the child. Otherwise his rights can be taken. Is this true?
